Clinical Practice Guideline Post Cardiac Arrest
What You Need to Know
• These guidelines apply to both patients who have had an In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest and those who are admitted to the hospital after Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA).
• When Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) is implemented, an accurate neurologic prognosis should be deferred until 72 hours after reaching normothermia (temperature > 36o C or 96.8o F).
• Determination of neurologic prognosis in patients who remain in coma after cardiac arrest should be based on multiple factors including neurologic examination (ideally off sedation), imaging and other diagnostic studies.
• No single study can accurately predict neurologic outcome.
